ISLAND: what was I before you awoke? an island with no anchor a throat without a song i felt the future like an infinite sea and from beneath the waves you spoke to me tropic rising bring us heat in your heart prepare a feast sons and daughters of paradise i waited my entire life to see you young one, be brave feel the wonder and follow where it goes i warned take only what you need but you want it all i'm in love with the light that comes my eden lay before your eyes could all it's glory ever suffice? you hold tremendous appetite am I truly tropic rising? does my heart contain a feast? child of the waters will I give you everything? young one, be brave feel the wonder and follow where it goes i warned take only what you need but you want it all i'm in love with the light that comes from you
3.
NATIVES: we could be the equal parts creation speaks a sacred truth that each one is made from two as the dusk opens an infinite mouth to let the stars come pouring out a quiet anoints the air barefoot walking through the smoke of incense paradise dripping from your hair my fingers catch in a single snare your image like mist in my mind skin like gold spread across water in your palms you hold the dawn and morning’s thirst demands that i take a drink from both your hands the flowers in our skull bloom slow and I wonder what becomes but now i see what we owe the serpent and the tree in the garden we became more than beasts will we age together, at the edge of night? in the slow heat where each limb awakes sweeter than honey what the body gives the flowers in our skull bloom slow and I wonder what becomes but now i see what we owe the serpent and the tree in the garden we became more than beasts one day the love that you gave will crown the children that you shape don't you know the universe grows with you
4.
OCEAN: in whose image were you made? of a hundred gods, am I not the one you crave? the waters from which you came bones that learned how to gather upon the earth but I gave you my blood and your heart still beats in waves your heart still beats in waves (echo) one day i may rise above the sacred palms and holy mountain tops shaped by the moon to cover the summer you loved on that day, will you embrace where you came from?
5.
6.
River Hands 05:33
NATIVES: we stand naked in the river like fingers pointing into the future a rainbow of carbon in the mist and in the distance the ocean calls us but we’ve got something left to give live long enough and you lose the ones you love if water rises to your lips does the animal heart within come to its senses? can we ever tame the ghost before we give it away? let our children carry the flame a gardens just another name for ground that was once a grave live long enough and you lose the ones you love cradled by the river until it carries to the flood maybe it’s our time we’re all adrift in the infinite tide
7.
ISLAND: fledgling bird, I watched you grow heard your song, as you knit new bones the spark in your lungs, a life awoke as it blooms into fire, I breathe the smoke my body dreamed of light that came and in the morning you remained no matter the life you create just know, my love, you cannot separate the night from the day as the ocean darkens it's white-toothed, eager waves will show you how the body breaks and if death emerges to gather you from me what shape will you take?
8.
Firstborn 02:43
ISLAND: my body dreamed of light that came and in the morning you remained
9.
NATIVES: sacred fruit in the branches above taste and know the thoughts of gods we inherit what the ground will yield our common language the withered trees of paradise coral feathered, delicate red the blood we share our hearts tethered with a strand of thread to each other life we’ve met my fingers traced the braille of sown fields to find what was buried inside both hands came back with earth our gift our birth and I was blind until it's clay covered both my eyes and now i see we share a light coral feathered, delicate red the blood we share our hearts tethered with a strand of thread to each other life we’ve met i may never know why we dream in imagined colors i may never know who we are to each other but I think I may find that we awake after our lives to learn that the divine was a light that clung to our insides
10.
OCEAN: are you in the mountains? child, that’s not high enough the wound I feared for you comes it’s hidden in my love you’re the dust of stars but what’s a star? just a memory of light
11.
STORM: last night i had no name just a whisper on some distant wave oh ye of little faith believe you were given all the world now you inherit me can you feel that hunger on the wind? the hundred hands across your skin by dusk I’ll be with you in paradise like the stars that make up your bones eventually the light implodes someday soon you’ll be nothing but dust in the dark all these feeble offerings that litter oceans floor your hopes, your dreams such small, broken things child, I want more no hymn will ease the suffering I carry in my teeth I’ve never known the taste of flesh but I will learn watch me learn

about

Wounded Tropic is a series of three albums that narrate the story of a small island, and it's devastation at the hands of a massive tropical storm. Four voices, both elemental and human, mark the disaster and it's bleak myriad of effects. Present in all volumes are the natives, the island, the ocean, and the storm itself.

Vol. 1 takes place as the tempest begins to form.

This is an album about the natural world, our ghosts, our children, the fears we hold, and the future we hope to create.
